Willem de Kooning
(Rotterdam, 1904 - Long Island (US), 1997) De Kooning is, with Pollock, one of the most important painters of abstract Expressionism. He became one of the leading avant-garde personalities and influencial artists of the 1950s. During the 1930s and 1940s de Kooning specialised in the depiction of three main themes: men, women and abstractions. After 1950 he returned to his subject 'Woman', while continuing with his abstract compositions.
